Telenor Pakistan to Be Dissolved Following Merger With Ufone

Pakistan’s telecom sector is set for a major shift as Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited moves closer to finalizing the merger between Ufone and Telenor Pakistan. Once regulatory approvals are secured, the combined entity will operate under the Ufone brand, while Telenor will be phased out.

According to PTCL President and CEO Hatim Bamatraf, the merger will result in a unified telecom company serving approximately 73 million customers. A large portion of this subscriber base consists of prepaid 4G users, making the merged entity one of the largest telecom networks in Pakistan.

The integration process will begin with full operational alignment between the two companies. This includes network consolidation, system integration, and service optimization to ensure a seamless transition for users. Only after these steps are completed will Telenor Pakistan be formally dissolved as a separate brand.

Industry experts believe the merger could significantly reshape market competition by strengthening infrastructure and expanding coverage. The combined resources of Ufone and Telenor Pakistan are expected to enhance service quality, improve network efficiency, and support future technological upgrades.

However, the transition is likely to take several months, as regulatory clearances and technical integration processes are completed. Authorities will closely evaluate the merger to ensure fair competition and consumer protection within the telecom sector.

The move reflects a broader trend of consolidation in the telecommunications industry, where operators are combining resources to remain competitive in an evolving digital landscape. For customers, the merger could bring improved services, though branding changes may take time to fully implement.

Once finalized, the disappearance of Telenor Pakistan as a standalone brand will mark the end of an era in Pakistan’s telecom market, while positioning Ufone as a significantly stronger player.
