Pakistan has achieved a major technological milestone with the development of a fully secure, locally engineered mobile phone tailored specifically for government use. The device has been produced under a pilot project led by the National Telecommunication Corporation, marking a significant step toward digital independence and enhanced state-level cybersecurity.
According to NTC officials, both the hardware and software of the handset have been developed entirely within Pakistan. This ensures full control over its architecture and eliminates reliance on foreign components that could pose security risks.
The secure phone operates on a custom-built operating system designed to function without any internet connectivity. By cutting off access to external networks, the device dramatically reduces exposure to cyber threats, hacking attempts and remote intrusions.
All applications installed on the phone have been built locally, reinforcing its closed, tightly protected ecosystem. Officials confirmed that the device supports SIM cards from any Pakistani mobile operator, making it compatible with all major telecom networks inside the country.
A key security feature is its restricted calling capability. The handset can only place calls to another secure phone of the same type, preventing unauthorized communication and ensuring that sensitive conversations remain within a protected network.
The introduction of a fully indigenous secure communication device reflects Pakistan’s growing emphasis on cyber resilience and data privacy. As threats evolve and digital espionage becomes more sophisticated, the government is focusing on building internal capacity to safeguard confidential communication.
