In a bid to combat electricity pilferage and ensure reliable supply, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched a tech-driven offensive. Starting Friday, LESCO began installing 135 cutting-edge scanning meters across the district. These innovative devices will empower technical teams to pinpoint areas where power theft is rampant.
“More scanning meters are on the way for all regions,” affirmed a LESCO technical officer. This proactive approach follows last month’s anti-theft crackdown, which unearthed 282 illegal connections across LESCO’s five districts.
Taking decisive action, LESCO has filed FIRs against 268 identified thieves, with 176 cases already registered and 24 arrests made. This operation, spearheaded by CEO Engineer Shahid Haider, is driven by the Federal Power Division’s directives and LESCO’s unwavering commitment to curbing electricity theft.
“Our mission is crystal clear: complete eradication of power theft, without exception,” declared the LESCO chief. He emphasized that not only will pilferers face the law, but any LESCO personnel involved in facilitating such activities will be held accountable.
To date, LESCO has charged power pilferers a total of Rs. 1,990,830,066, based on detection units identified last month. This robust campaign sends a strong message: LESCO is committed to providing reliable power and will not tolerate electricity theft.
