Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has appointed Muhammad Amir Siddiqi as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), following approval from the company’s Board of Directors. His appointment takes effect immediately and is expected to strengthen the company’s financial leadership and support its long-term business strategy.

Amir Siddiqi brings more than 30 years of professional experience in financial management, strategic planning, treasury operations, corporate governance and business transformation. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and has built an extensive career across Pakistan’s telecommunications industry and international markets.

His professional background also includes experience with leading global professional services firms, including Ernst & Young (EY) and Deloitte. This combination of corporate finance and telecommunications expertise has given him extensive exposure to financial operations and business development.

Amir is already familiar with PTCL Group, having previously served as Group Executive Vice President for Financial Planning and Treasury between 2013 and 2022. During this period, he was responsible for financial planning, budgeting, funding arrangements, treasury operations and group-level performance management.

He later took on the role of Head of Strategy and Transformation at PTCL Group, where he contributed to corporate strategy, business growth planning and organizational transformation initiatives.

During his previous tenure, Amir supported several important developments within the telecommunications sector. His contributions included facilitating spectrum acquisition and a telecom-sector acquisition in Pakistan, supporting the introduction of Wireless Data and Flash Fiber broadband services, and leading cost optimization initiatives across the group.

He also played a significant role in integrating the finance functions of PTCL and Ufone at the group level. His international professional exposure includes working with Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates, adding further experience in the telecommunications business environment.

Before returning to PTCL, Amir served as Chief Financial Officer of U Microfinance Bank (UBank) from 2023. During his tenure, he contributed to financial and operational transformation, focusing on improving efficiency, strengthening financial controls and supporting the bank’s long-term financial position.

One of his notable achievements at UBank was securing regulatory approval for a capital injection plan worth approximately Rs. 15 billion. He also delivered annualized operating cost savings of around Rs. 2 billion through financial and operational improvements.

His responsibilities included strengthening regulatory compliance, improving recovery capabilities and enhancing financial management practices. He also brings experience in mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), financial reporting and board-level governance.

In his new position, Amir will oversee PTCL’s financial strategy and overall financial management. His responsibilities will include improving financial performance, optimizing capital allocation, strengthening corporate governance and increasing operational efficiency.

The appointment comes at an important time for Pakistan’s telecommunications industry, which continues to evolve through broadband expansion, digital services and growing demand for reliable connectivity. Effective financial management remains essential for telecom companies investing in infrastructure, technology and network development.

With his previous experience at PTCL Group, international exposure and leadership record at UBank, Muhammad Amir Siddiqi is expected to contribute to the company’s strategic execution and future business development.

His return to PTCL in a senior financial leadership position also brings continuity and familiarity with the group’s operations as the company works towards strengthening its market position and creating long-term business value.
