Redmi has quietly introduced a new budget smartphone series in China with the launch of the Redmi M100. The new handset is already available for purchase in the Chinese market, although it remains unclear whether Redmi plans to release the device internationally.
The Redmi M100 is designed to compete in the affordable smartphone segment while offering features that are increasingly common in more expensive devices. Its large display, high refresh rate, protective glass, and splash resistance are among the key highlights.
The phone comes with a 6.9-inch LCD display offering a resolution of 1600 × 720 pixels. The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which can make scrolling, animations, and supported games appear smoother compared with standard 60Hz panels.
Xiaomi has also equipped the display with eye-protection features aimed at making extended viewing more comfortable. Corning Gorilla Glass provides an additional layer of protection against everyday scratches and minor impacts.
The large screen could make the Redmi M100 appealing to users who regularly watch videos, browse social media, read content, or use their phones for entertainment. The combination of a 6.9-inch panel and 120Hz refresh rate gives the budget device a more modern display experience.
The Redmi M100 also includes protection against dust and splashes, adding another practical feature for everyday use. While this does not necessarily mean the phone is designed for complete water immersion, the added resistance can provide some protection against common environmental exposure.
Another unusual detail is the fingerprint sensor, which Xiaomi says is rated to withstand up to 500,000 touches. This suggests the company has focused on durability in an area that users interact with frequently.
On the rear, the Redmi M100 uses a four-dimensional micro-curved design. The styling is intended to give the phone a more refined appearance while making the device easier to hold.
The camera section also features RGB dynamic lighting, giving the rear design a distinctive visual element. This feature adds a touch of customization to a handset positioned in the budget smartphone category.
Redmi is offering the M100 in three color options: Midnight Black, Starry White, and Wilderness Green. The selection gives buyers several choices ranging from a traditional dark finish to brighter and more distinctive options.
The launch of the M100 also marks the beginning of a new smartphone series for Redmi. The company has not yet confirmed whether the model will be introduced in other markets, so international availability remains uncertain.
If Redmi eventually expands the M100 to international markets, the phone could attract buyers looking for a large-screen budget smartphone with a high refresh rate and additional durability features.
For now, the Redmi M100 remains focused on the Chinese market. Its quiet launch nevertheless adds another affordable option to Redmi’s extensive smartphone portfolio and could provide an indication of the features the company wants to emphasize in its new budget series.
The combination of a large 6.9-inch display, 120Hz refresh rate, protective glass, splash resistance, distinctive rear design, and RGB lighting gives the Redmi M100 several features that could help it stand out in the competitive entry-level smartphone segment.
