ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially begun the process of hiring a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) following the departure of former CEO Muhammad Osman Nasir Abu Bakar.
The ministry has opened applications for the position, inviting qualified, visionary, and results-oriented professionals to lead the PSEB into its next phase of development. The appointment will be made on a three-year contractual basis, with the potential for extension based on performance and government approval.
Mandate and Responsibilities
According to the official announcement, the incoming CEO will be tasked with executing PSEB’s ongoing projects and launching new initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) exports.
The role involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and policy execution to ensure sustainable growth of the country’s digital economy. The CEO will also be responsible for implementing MoITT’s broader vision of transforming Pakistan into a competitive global IT hub.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate experience in organizational leadership, technology management, international business development, and export promotion.
Driving Pakistan’s IT Export Growth
Under the MoITT’s supervision, the Pakistan Software Export Board serves as the primary agency promoting IT and software exports, facilitating foreign investments, and supporting local tech firms in accessing international markets.
With Pakistan’s IT exports crossing $3.2 billion in FY2024, the board has played a pivotal role in expanding the digital services sector. However, officials say the next phase of growth will require strong leadership to enhance competitiveness, digital skills, and investment inflows amid a rapidly evolving global tech landscape.
Leadership Transition
Abu Bakar’s tenure at PSEB saw several initiatives aimed at expanding Pakistan’s global IT footprint, including programs to support startups, freelancers, and women in technology. The ministry has yet to announce an interim head while the hiring process is underway.
According to insiders, the government aims to finalize the appointment within the next two months to ensure continuity in ongoing projects under the Digital Pakistan Vision.
The MoITT has encouraged applicants to apply through the National Job Portal and submit complete documentation by the deadline specified in the official advertisement.
