Samsung Explains Soft Corners on Galaxy Z Fold 8 Inner Display

Samsung has responded to concerns surrounding the inner display of its Galaxy Z Fold 8 after some owners reported that the corners of the foldable screen appear to flex or move slightly when pressure is applied.

The unusual behavior has raised questions among early users, with some wondering whether the movement indicates a manufacturing defect or insufficient support beneath the flexible display.

Samsung, however, has said that the behavior is intentional. According to the company, the slight flexibility is part of the display’s design and is intended to provide additional protection for the foldable panel.

The reports primarily concern the large inner screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Some users have noticed that certain corners feel softer than the surrounding areas when they are gently pressed.

Videos and posts shared online have drawn attention to the issue, particularly because the movement can make the display appear as though something underneath it is missing or improperly fitted.

Early owners have reported different levels of flexibility between devices. While some users have noticed more visible movement, others have observed only a small amount of flex that is difficult to detect during normal use.

A review unit was also found to have a slight amount of movement around the top-right corner of the inner display. The movement was reportedly less pronounced than what appeared in some online videos and did not interfere with ordinary operation.

The reports have appeared across several online platforms, including Reddit, Samsung community forums and social media. The varying observations suggest that the amount of movement may differ from one Galaxy Z Fold 8 unit to another.

Despite the concerns, Samsung’s explanation indicates that the flexible corners are not necessarily evidence of damaged hardware. Foldable smartphones use specialised display technology that must accommodate repeated opening and closing of the device.

Unlike conventional smartphone screens, foldable panels require a degree of flexibility. Components beneath the display also have to be engineered to withstand the mechanical movement associated with folding.

The latest clarification is therefore likely to reassure Galaxy Z Fold 8 owners who noticed minor movement in the corners of their inner screens. Samsung considers the behavior part of the device’s protective design rather than an unintended manufacturing issue.

Users should nevertheless avoid applying excessive pressure to the foldable display. Although the screen is designed to flex, unnecessary force can still potentially damage delicate components.

The reports also highlight the challenges manufacturers face when developing increasingly sophisticated foldable smartphones. Consumers often expect premium devices to have rigid displays similar to traditional phones, while foldable technology necessarily requires a different approach.

For Galaxy Z Fold 8 owners, the key distinction is between slight, intentional flexibility and signs of actual screen damage. Samsung’s explanation suggests that minor movement in the corners can occur without affecting the device’s normal functionality.

As more people use the Galaxy Z Fold 8, additional long-term observations may provide a clearer picture of how the display behaves over time. For now, Samsung maintains that the soft-feeling corners are an intentional part of the foldable screen’s design.
