OpenAI has begun testing advertisements in ChatGPT for users on its Free and Go subscription tiers in the United States, the company confirmed on Monday.
The Go plan, OpenAI’s latest low-cost subscription priced at $8 per month in the US, was introduced globally in mid-January 2026 to offer a more affordable alternative with enhanced usage limits.
According to OpenAI, users on paid tiers, including Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans, will not see ads. The testing aims to explore ad-supported options while keeping premium experiences ad-free.
The move marks OpenAI’s first public experiment with advertising in ChatGPT, allowing the company to assess user response and explore potential revenue streams for free-tier users. Paid subscribers continue to enjoy an uninterrupted, ad-free experience.
