Alibaba has entered the smart wearable market with the launch of its new Quark AI Glasses, signaling a major expansion of the company’s consumer-focused AI ecosystem. The glasses, released in China on Thursday, come in two models: the Quark G1 priced at $268 and the more advanced Quark S1 starting at $536. The launch reflects Alibaba’s push to bring AI-powered devices into everyday use at accessible price points.
Both variants integrate Alibaba’s Qwen AI models, the company’s own large-language-model system and direct competitor to platforms like ChatGPT. The glasses connect seamlessly to the Qwen app, enabling users to issue voice commands, interact with on-device features and access real-time AI assistance. This makes the Quark series one of Alibaba’s most direct attempts to merge generative AI with consumer hardware.
The Quark AI Glasses feature lenses that function as digital screens, offering heads-up display capabilities for notifications, translation, navigation and other AI-supported tasks. A camera is embedded within the frame, adding visual input capabilities for real-time analysis, environmental scanning and AI-powered recognition tools. Alibaba states that the core difference between the S1 and G1 models lies in the display technology. The S1 offers a more advanced optical system with improved clarity and brightness, while the G1 focuses on affordability without removing essential features.
Users can ask the glasses to summarize text, translate foreign languages, identify objects or provide contextual information about their surroundings. The combination of voice control and AI-driven responses aims to create a hands-free, assistant-style experience for daily productivity, travel and learning. The integration of Qwen AI also means that the device can handle more complex queries, offering nuanced responses comparable to other major AI systems.
As AI-powered wearables gain global traction, Alibaba’s entry into the market reflects a growing trend among major tech companies aiming to merge generative AI with portable hardware. The pricing of the Quark G1 model positions Alibaba competitively, especially in a market where AI glasses from competing brands often cost significantly more.
With the increasing demand for lightweight AI-assisted devices, analysts expect Alibaba’s Quark glasses to appeal to users looking for practical, AI-driven functionality at a reasonable price. The company has not yet announced international availability, but strong regional demand could influence future global expansion plans.
