Motorola’s Thinnest Phone Reaches Global Market With Better Specs Than iPhone Air

Motorola has officially unveiled the Edge 70, marking the global debut of its thinnest smartphone yet — and it’s already making headlines for outperforming Apple’s iPhone Air in several key areas.

Recently listed on Motorola’s official website, the Edge 70 serves as the international version of the X70 Air, bringing a seamless combination of design elegance, flagship-grade performance, and enhanced photography in a body that’s impressively slim and lightweight.

The company touts the new model as a blend of minimalism and high-end engineering, positioning it as a strong competitor in the mid-premium smartphone segment.

Design and Display Excellence

The Motorola Edge 70 features a remarkably thin chassis that measures just 6.2mm, making it one of the slimmest phones ever launched by the brand. Despite its sleek form, the phone retains durability through an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass protection on both sides.

It sports a 6.67-inch pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification, ensuring vivid color reproduction and smooth on-screen motion. With 1,600 nits peak brightness, the display outshines many competitors, including Apple’s iPhone Air, particularly in outdoor visibility.

Performance and Power

Under the hood, the Edge 70 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, supported by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The chipset ensures strong AI capabilities and power efficiency, while Motorola’s optimized software experience — close to stock Android 15 — delivers a clean, bloat-free interface.

One of the phone’s standout advantages over the iPhone Air is its 5,000mAh battery, paired with 68W TurboPower fast charging. This combination provides longer screen time and faster recharges compared to Apple’s smaller cell and slower charging speeds.

Camera Upgrades

Motorola has equipped the Edge 70 with a 50MP main sensor, utilizing OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for crisp photography in low light. The setup is complemented by a 13MP ultra-wide and macro combo lens and a 32MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

The camera system features AI-assisted scene recognition and real-time HDR processing, improving contrast and detail without oversaturation. Users can also record 4K video at 60fps, putting the Edge 70 in the same league as high-end competitors.

Cooling, Connectivity, and Software

Unlike the iPhone Air, which has drawn mixed reviews for thermal management, the Motorola Edge 70 employs a liquid cooling system for sustained performance under heavy workloads.

Connectivity features include 5G dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB Type-C 3.2. Motorola promises three years of major Android updates and four years of security patches, aligning with flagship software support standards.

Verdict

The Motorola Edge 70 not only stands as the company’s thinnest device to date but also offers a better overall specification sheet than the iPhone Air. With its larger battery, faster charging, efficient cooling, and high-end display, it presents a compelling choice for users seeking premium performance without switching to Apple’s ecosystem.

Motorola is expected to announce market availability and pricing details for South Asia and Europe in the coming weeks.
