In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s tech community, Securiti AI, a leading cybersecurity and data-protection startup founded by Pakistani entrepreneur Rehan Jalil, has been acquired by global data-resilience company Veeam for approximately $1.7 billion.
The acquisition marks one of the largest exits for a Pakistani founder in Silicon Valley, highlighting the growing influence of Pakistani innovators in global artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity ecosystems.
Revolutionizing AI data governance
Founded by Rehan Jalil, Securiti AI develops cutting-edge tools that help companies discover, secure, and manage data across cloud environments and AI applications. Its flagship platform, the Data Command Center, centralizes privacy management, compliance, and AI data governance — enabling businesses to safely build and deploy AI systems in line with global regulatory standards.
Under the acquisition deal, Jalil will assume a key leadership role at Veeam as President of Security and AI, overseeing the integration of Securiti’s technologies into Veeam’s data protection suite. The transaction includes both cash and equity components and is expected to close later this year, pending regulatory approvals.
Enhancing secure AI adoption
Veeam, which specializes in data backup, recovery, and ransomware protection, plans to integrate Securiti’s privacy and AI-trust features into its own products, creating a powerful hybrid platform for secure AI adoption.
“Businesses worldwide are racing to adopt AI, but they need confidence that their data is secure, compliant, and trustworthy,” Veeam said in a statement. “By combining Securiti’s governance tools with Veeam’s resilience solutions, we’re building the foundation for safe and accelerated AI growth.”
Industry experts believe the acquisition underscores a growing market demand for AI governance and regulatory compliance tools, as organizations face increasing pressure to ensure transparency and ethical data use in artificial intelligence systems.
A milestone for Pakistani tech talent
Rehan Jalil, a graduate of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES), has long been recognized as a pioneer in cybersecurity and cloud protection. Before founding Securiti in 2019, he led Elastica, another cloud security startup that was acquired by Blue Coat Systems (later acquired by Symantec).
In a post-acquisition statement, Jalil said his mission remains focused on enabling organizations to innovate responsibly with AI:
“As AI transforms industries, protecting and governing data responsibly is more critical than ever. Together with Veeam, we will empower enterprises to innovate confidently while maintaining data trust and resilience.”
Pakistan’s startup community has hailed the $1.7 billion acquisition as a historic success story, emphasizing how local talent continues to make an impact on the global tech stage.
Industry analysts say this milestone could inspire further investment in Pakistan’s AI, cybersecurity, and software innovation sectors, fostering greater collaboration between Silicon Valley and South Asian tech ecosystems.
