WhatsApp Rolls Out In-App Contact Storing Feature for Seamless Management
WhatsApp is stepping up its game by launching an in-app contact storage feature that revolutionizes how users manage and access contacts. Previously, contact information was tied to each phone, making it difficult for those who frequently switched devices, shared phones, or didn’t back up contacts. The new contact storage feature ensures contacts remain accessible within the app, making switching devices simpler and hassle-free.
The update is currently available for WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop for Windows, with plans to expand it to other devices. This approach allows users to access contact information across all linked devices, reducing the need to manually update contacts on each platform.
WhatsApp’s Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS)
To ensure top-notch security, WhatsApp has integrated Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS), which encrypts all stored contacts. With IPLS, names and phone numbers are secured so only the user has access, even if they’re using WhatsApp on multiple devices.
Username-Based Login Adds Another Layer of Privacy
In addition to contact storage, WhatsApp introduces a username-based login feature. This option allows users to create an account without linking it to a phone number, making it ideal for users who prioritize privacy and anonymity.
These updates transform WhatsApp into a more efficient contact manager while strengthening user privacy and security. This feature is set to enhance the user experience, catering to the needs of individuals managing multiple devices or seeking added control over their information.
